Employers to Maintain Staff Levels in Third Quarter

Most employers expect their staff levels to remain the same in the third quarter as recruiting patterns hold steady and job losses trend downward, according to a new survey by CareerBuilder and USA TODAY’s.

The survey, conducted by Harris Interactive among more than 2,600 hiring managers and human resource professionals, predicts several emerging trends in hiring, compensation and how employers are dealing with the effects of the economic downturn. Continue reading

On Tuesday, I was in the elevator, reading “Captivate” (the little TV that flashes news) when a startling headline caught my eye: “Jobless man steals just for free prison lunch.”

Um, what?

The short blurb went on to say that an unemployed (and homeless) man from Taiwan, who was recently released from prison, stole a box of cotton swabs just to get arrested again because “he could not forget the police department boxed lunches,” according to the arresting officers and media.
