Although, you are well intentioned, this really does not help. We need real jobs that pay a decent wage, not just temp jobs, selling jobs. We need jobs for the blue collar American- remember, the backbone of America. Also, white collar jobs now.

Ya know, I have been unemployed for almost six weeks. I was an administrative medical assistant for over fifteen years, with the last nine years at the same job.
I have been working like a dog to find a job, to no avail.
So, I decided I am going to nursing school. If the federal government is going to get us in this garbage mess of an economy, then they can sure as well pay for my nursing school so that I can find a job.

This is a headsup for Laurie-- it has been my experience when looking for job, employers are excited about you until they see you. There is a lot of DISCRIMINATION GOING ON IN THIS COUNTRY TOWARD THE OLDER WORKERS. It is your age and that is holding you back from a job or any job, here in this country they only want the young people. Qualification has nothing to do with it, now days very little. I understand. I'm in FL also. I feel I'm in the same boat, just 13 years older. Try H&R Block. Take their course, work in a large office. You can apply for unemployment after the season is over around April 15th while applying for jobs. With your CPA you should be able to draw their highest pay. You can sign-up for their course on line (HRBLOCK.COM). Courses usually start around the first of September for 12 weeks (2 three hour classes per week).

We all know that when typing/writing on the internet, people are very careless and probably way too casual with their typing, grammar, syntax, etc. Give them a break!

Marsha, I believe in faith and I know that the Lord will make a way when there appears to be no way. We are trusting in the Lord regardless of our circumstances and standing firm on His promise that He will never leave us or forsake us. Thank you for edifying those who do not see a way out of their circumstances. I would also like to say to those who feel are at their lowest point in life, "When you feel your are at your lowest point in life this is the time when the Lord will bring you up as long as you keep the faith and believe that He will do it".

I have found that despite my extensive background in manufacturing and power plant operations that I have always been able to fall back on my Certified Nursing Assistant skills in times of economic crises.

The pay is not the best, nor is it the worst, as it is equivalent to a basic mufacturing assembly line wage, but with excellent medical benefits at a reasonable copay. I currently make (with night shift differential) about $17 per hour and with overtime, I should gross about $52,000 this year....nothing to sneeze at, though you have to be willing to do anything the patient needs, including changing adult briefs and bathing people.

A good CNA education should be about 3-4 months in duration with full time involvement...as in a pre-nursing program at a technical school...this will provide enough theory and practical experience to allow you to work with a registry at first and get paid top dollar while building up your exposure to various medical environments.

Health care is one of the most secure and in demand careers..and age has nothing to do with being hired as long as you can physically perform.

Something to think about for those with families to support. Many agencies will sponsor for the training.

I am a 50+ living in Florida. I hold a BA, with triple major, highest honors, a 4.0 grad school cpa, and a JD with Bar admittance, as well as a Fla CAM license. No jobs for me out there, unless I want to sling coffee at Starbucks for $9.75 hour. I'm either too old, too educated or too experiences or inexperienced, but never the one for the job...not a REAL job, at any rate.

As for these companies, there are, as many have already said, always looking. As for the recruiters, they are so scared, they won't even send out a resume unless they have deemed an applicant a near perfect fit. With the flood of resumes these days, all of them professionally done for key word scanning, the chance of even getting "seen" is slim.

Where are the jobs in Fremont? I get e-mails all the time about jobs in Fremont, but nothing ever materializes.

Being a "mature" worker, I can't even get part time work at the local McDonalds. I guess the BS in bio and grad work in biochem was a waste of my time, money and dreams. As the Boss asked "Is a dream a lie if it don't come true?"

Everyday I look up jobs that is sent to me, and I always filled them out, But no response to any of the applications that I applied to. I have alot of experience in Food Industry;Nevertheless no will call or email me back with an response. I've been in Resturant Management for 17years+,Also have lead many of the companys that I've worked at. HeyMark, the new economy like the 70's is about realignment. Find ways to use your graphic skills to promote local businesses thru design for them. t-shirt ads, stellar banners for their facades. Its your turn to get the money and not be the employee.

Insurance jobs: if you don't have any licenses, you study, take tests..$$$ is needed unless the employer helps...I've heard the insurance field isn't high paying. Many of the other jobs listed require specific education, some in specialized fields. Dont have a 4 yr. degree. I'm over 50 also...

Another field of work that is nationwide is exterior inspections for homes that are in foreclosure, bk, or delinguents. To get hired you may have to get errors and omissions insurance and have basic office set up or you can work for someone else. Some companies may not need insurance. You can make alot of money if you are dedicated and know the geographic area. Good transportation and must be flexible. Husband has been doing it for over 15 years. You can get some of these companies name by going to vacant homes and see who has done maintenace work. I personally will not give out websites or company names.

What a lackluster role of companies and "opportunities". These companies are always trolling for bodies to fill "non-jobs" such as commissioned salespeople and entry-level clerks. And there is no shortage of companies advertising job descriptions instead of open requisitions, simply to look as though there is some business activity at the office. Frankly, the list of recruiters and companies who are wasting the time of applicants with this atrocious practice is staggering. Many "Recruiters" who favor on-line job sites are simply "phishers" for personal info on resumes which they can sell to marketing firms and other scabs. Be safe and do NOT use recruiters; contact companies directly.

To all the america people that are looking for jobs, keep your head up. Do not give up on yourself; contiune to believe that things will start to get better for you. Too all ages 50s and over; you still can have a change to get that job that you want. I know companies are looking at the younger people; they see them as a fresh start, and they can pay them way below what they normally would pay people for their experiences and education. I tell you to speak positive and think positive. The bible say that life and death is in the power of the tongue. You can speak success in your life or you can curse your life with your own words. When you are looking for a job use words like; I will, I shall, I am optimistic. I pray for everyone who is looking for employment. I pray that everyone walk in faith. I know some people don't beleive in faith, but I pray that you believe that things will start to get better. I have a degree in Electronics Engineering Technology with Physics minor. I almost feel I went to the wrong school as most companies are unwilling to hire someone without experience. I belief some day everyone looking for job will have something.

I live in a rural area, where jobs are already scarce. Trying to find a position is extremely tough as it is. I see Allstate Insurance listed. I have already been their in this area and they are not hiring.

With 20 years as a graphic designer, I'm too young to retire and have too much experience to get hired. I guess this is the new economy we've all been waiting for.

With 14.7 Million US workers unemployed, these companies jobs total just over 9,600, which, while laudable, represents a tiny fraction of what's required to pull our country out of the hole it's in. Not to mention whether they provide an income a family can survive on. Hell, my county alone has 27,000 people competing with me looking for work. However, I wish everyone the best in their search and I hope we all find what we're looking for....

I have seen this same list of companies in other places which means they are the only ones hiring. As a creative I saw one job, not in my town that pays $12.00 an hour. What are "WE" going to do?
