Think of it as if it is guaranteed even though the evidence says otherwise. The "or better" part is a source of frustration, because while we’re waiting we’re suffering. How are things? Did you find better employment?

It appears we have to strongly believe God will do what we ask or better in order to increase our chances of it happening. Think of it as if it is guaranteed even though the evidence says otherwise. The “or better” part is a source of frustration, because while we’re waiting we’re suffering.
