Happy Labor Day!

Labor Day is Monday, and to celebrate the holiday I thought I would share a few fun facts about the holiday.

- Labor Day originated in New York City. The Central Labor Union banded together to create a holiday for workers.

- The idea caught on, and Congress made it a holiday in 1894. It’s observed in all 50 states.

- For many colleges and some high schools, Labor Day marks the last day of ‘freedom’ before classes resume.

- Labor Day also marks the start of college football season; the first NCAA games are usually played over Labor Day weekend.

- For the last 42 years, entertainer Jerry Lewis has held an annual Labor Day telethon with proceeds benefitting the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

- For many years, it was considered bad fashion etiquette to wear white after Labor Day.

Enjoy the long weekend!
