You can’t make this stuff up: Strange but true co-worker complaints

I have to admit, I got pretty lucky in the co-worker department. It’s rare that I have any major complaints about them, I count a few among my best friends, and I sit one row away from my sister Mary, who writes for our sister blog The Hiring Site. (There’s a rumor going around we are the same person, but we’re really not. Ask our parents.)
Don’t get me wrong, I have had some unpleasant experiences in former jobs, too. I can totally relate to the latest survey CareerBuilder released bringing a little levity to the workplace during this current stressful employment environment. More than 2,600 hiring managers participated in the nationwide survey, citing examples of the oddest complaints they received from employees.
Here are some of the highlights:
- Employee is too sun-tanned.
- Employee has big hair.
- Employee eats all the good cookies.
- Employee is so polite, it’s infuriating.
- Employee suspected co-worker is a pimp.
- Employee is trying to poison me.
- Employee’s body is magnetic and keeps de-activating my magnetic access card.
- Employee is personally responsible for a federally-mandated tax increase.
- Employee was annoyed the company didn’t provide a place for naps during break time.
- Employee only wears slippers or socks at work.
- Employee’s aura is wrong.
- Employee smells like road ramps.
- Employee breathes too loudly.
- Employee wants to check a co-worker for ticks.
- 8 a.m. is too early to get up for work.
- Employee wore pajamas to work.
- Employee has bells on her shoes and it’s not the holidays.
- Co-worker reminded the employee too much of Bambi.
- Employee spends too much time caring for stray cats around the building.
- A male employee keeps using the ladies’ room because the men’s room is not as tidy.
What’s the weirdest complaint you’ve had?
Hi, fascinating post. I have been pondering this problem,so thanks for posting. I will visit your blog once more
I worked for a company that couldn't understand me being happy at work. Everyone kept telling me I was too happy and would ask what was wrong with me. I didn't understand that one at all!!
I shared an office with my GM that would constantly ridicule me for how I sat in my chair "it has a back rest for a reason!". I sit on the front edge, straight back, balls of my feet down (yoga chair style). He hated me "homerow" typing (The speed of the key clicks was too distracting to him) and expected me to "hunt & peck" with index fingers like he did. Lastly he'd constantly take my trackball because he couldn't stand the "whirr" now and then when I'd spin the wheel to cursor across the screen. "The rest of the world uses a regular mouse, so can you!". We had face to face screaming matches over this stuff and he tried to complain to HR that my habits were too disruptive to his performance and requested I be transferred.
first / last three interviews:
phone - very nice, great qualifications
visit - OMG you're old
followup - postcard: we found someone more suitable [ie, 20-something]
conclusion: apparently the 20-somethings in HR are unable to determine from a resume that 30+ years of experience / two college degrees means the fellow is likely to be older than their big sister!
One of the computer lab I worked at in college I worked with a guy who barley did his job, barely. We were required to wear the vest that was on hand thair, he would have to be pressured into wearing the "smelly" vest. He constantly had food and drinks in the lab area and there was a rule for no food and drink in the lab. Always talking to someone on the phoneor in the lab and hitting on the ladies. Was always on a rush to get out when it was closing (stuck around till all the closing duties was done). He always complained about on how cleaning up the lab was beneath him, and called up his mother, who happened to be sleeping at the time, to complain.
Co-worker smells of booze, has car accidents on regular basis, is in the middle of a divorce and has out of control kids, but insists on giving child-rearing advice to all.
