Disappearing act: When jobs slip away

The Wall Street Journal was talking about an incredibly timely topic recently.

The life cycle of the hiring process at your company probably averages between two and six weeks, depending on what kind of research and due diligence human resources is doing for all the candidates and how crucial the job is to the core business the company does every day.

But changes to the economy are coming so quickly these days that a new trend has emerged where candidates are seeing the position they interviewed for – and in some cases, were even offered – disappear before the first day of work.

The reporter talks specifically about a candidate who interviewed for a job, moved across country and then saw his new position evaporate.

What should workers do if this scenario happens to them?

The article suggests that the best course of action is to move on. After all, if the company is experiencing that much turmoil, it’s better to steer clear of an unsteady ship and find a better fit with a more stable employer.
