Hail to the chief: Politics and presidents in the workplace

CareerBuilder.com is releasing the results of a new survey today about the 2008 presidential election and the workplace.

We surveyed over 6,100 employees about next week’s election, and here’s what they said:

87 percent of workers say they’ll be casting a vote in the 2008 presidential election.
When will they vote? 41 percent of workers say they plan to vote after work, and 31 percent said they’ll vote before their workday starts. 14 percent of workers plan to leave work during the day to vote.
63 percent said that they’re keeping their political affiliations to themselves while they’re at work.
68 percent of female workers say they don’t discuss their political affiliation during work hours, compared to 58 percent of their male counterparts.
21 percent of workers say that their employers prohibit the posting of political materials from either candidate or party in their work space.

We know that everyone’s voting for the president of the country, but what about the president of your company? What would happen if you had a chance to vote for company president?

53 percent say they would re-elect their current president
47 percent would elect a new person to the office.
